PANDION supports Cologne’s children’s opera

February 2018

PANDION supports Cologne’s children’s opera, which has been around for 20 years. After Christmas, the light-hearted jazz opera “The Brownies of Cologne” by Ingfried Hoffmann was on the programme.

We invited not only our employees and their children, but also the German Red Cross with children from various refugee facilities to find out together whether the legendary, hard-working little helpers from Cologne really do exist. A great evening was had by our kids and ourselves in the “Brownies of Cologne” in the children’s opera!

About the children’s opera: The children's opera of Cologne Opera is celebrating its 20th anniversary in the 2016/17 season, making it Europe's oldest children's opera. Since 1996, 46 new productions have been staged here and more than 155,000 spectators from Cologne and around the world have visited the performances of the children's opera.

Cologne children’s opera puts on first-class opera productions for a young audience that are presented by professional singers from Cologne Opera and the Gürzenich Orchestra from Cologne. These range from fairy tale operas via baroque operas, works from the classic and romantic periods right through to contemporary pieces and premieres. The performances – depending on the piece and the production – are suitable for children of a pre-school age, primary school children, secondary school classes as well as families. There are even mobile productions of children's operas for the very small (age 3 and over) that can be presented in kindergartens and daycare centres.
