PANDION builds 320 apartments in Cologne’s “Ehrenveedel”

November 2019

The go-ahead has been given for a new quarter in Cologne-Ehrenfeld: the cornerstone ceremony for the first stage of construction for PANDION FIVE FRIENDS. Around 70 invited guests attended the celebrations on 5 November – including buyers, project participants and business partners as well as Niklas Kienitz, Chairman of the Urban Development Committee of Cologne’s City Council.

The PANDION FIVE FRIENDS housing project is part of the “Ehrenveedel”, a mixed-use district on a site covering approx. 70,.000 square metres on the former Ehrenfeld goods yard. PANDION FIVE FRIENDS is the first building block in the district and comprises around 125 freehold apartments with roughly 13,000 square metres of gross floor area. The living spaces of the project’s two to five-room freehold apartments will be between 49 and 145 square metres and 50 percent of these have already been sold in the first stage of construction.

In the coming years, we will be building a total of around 500 apartments in the “Ehrenveedel” with a further project developer. Of these, PANDION are planning freehold apartments and an additional 80 units as subsidised housing. A four-group childcare centre as well as space for local supplies and offices are also being planned. This makes the “Ehrenveedel” one of the biggest new building projects on the left bank of the Rhine in Cologne.

“Our projects in the ‘Ehrenveedel’ are creating some urgently needed living space in one of Cologne’s most popular districts,” says the PANDION CEO Reinhold Knodel. “This is our home market – which is why we are particularly happy with the very good and productive cooperation with the City of Cologne.”

Niklas Kienitz also expressed his delight about the start of the building work: “Cologne is still a very popular place to live and is growing year by year. PANDION and other project developers are important partners for politics and administration. They play a key role in guaranteeing that we can keep up with this development and can bring more apartments onto the market for everyone who wants to live in our beautiful city.”
