PANDION is delighted by the magical evening in Cologne Opera

December 2019

On 29 November, Cologne Opera celebrated the première of the third production from Richard Wagner’s “The Ring Cycle” with “Siegfried for Kids”. “It was a great evening in the Staatenhaus. As a long-standing sponsor, we are proud of everyone involved and the show’s successful première,” enthuses PANDION CEO Reinhold Knodel. The première was attended by not only PANDION employees and their children but also the winners of our ticket raffle in the PANDION INSIDE Newsletter.

The staging of the opera in a manner suitable for children also included a supporting programme at the première: Before the start of the opera, children could make their own Gram sword and draw pictures of the story in the foyer. It is quite amazing how the production manages to condense the original action of the nearly four-hour opera into around 70 minutes. The sold-out Room 3 of the Staatenhaus was entranced by the animated stage play and marvelled at the fabulously designed scenery as well as the colourful costumes. Music lovers too praised the “musically outstanding” ensemble and orchestra and recommended all of the Children’s Opera productions as a real “insider tip for adult opera lovers”.

Since its foundation in 1996, the Cologne Children’s Opera has been staging top-ranking productions for a young audience and opera newbies. And for many years has enjoyed the support of PANDION. Following on from “The Rhinegold”, “The Valkyrie“ and “Siegfried”, next year will see the fourth and final production from Richard Wagners “The Ring” cycle at Cologne Opera, “Twilight of the Gods.” We are already looking forward to the next Children’s Opera production!
